Phone Debacle Round One

Comcast in their infinite wisdom decided to "upgrade" our telephones. This purported upgrade was essentially commanding me to drop one of our three phone lines. My wife and I have home offices and need three phone lines. The Comcast version of VOIP can only support two lines. They never informed us why they can only support two phone lines. Has to be a colossal IT glitch.
We decided to switch to Vonage. After six weeks of wrangling, Comcast REFUSED to port (send our telephone numbers) over to the competition. Not being one to shy away from a good fight, I involved the DPUC (Dept. of Public Utility Control). My intial complaint resulted in being assigned an "executive" customer care specialist. She proved to be an expert in not returning phone calls and emails. When she did, not much happened. I never did get my numbers transferred.
Two days ago, we decided to knucle under and lose our home phone line of 23 years. Our business lines took priority. We agreed to sign up for their "new and improved" service. We went through third party verification and set up an appointment for installation the following week. This is where it gets UNBELIEVABLE.
The following day, our phones went dead. Comcast cancelled our account. No ammount of pleading, cajoling or firmness got us a decent answer. I called my contact in the State of CT and he was able to arm twist them. Our phones mysteriously were turned back on twenty four hours later, despite the fact that numerous Comcast employees claimed this to be an impossibility.
As of this composition, our numbers have not been ported as originally requested. I also do not know if I am getting the new and improved version of their phone service. I went through third party verification a SECOND time, as our initial work order was mysteriously cancelled. Are we still Comcast customers?? Who knows. Who really cares. We just want phone service to run our businesses. With Comcast as the only cable company in rural Connecticut, we are essentially stuck.
Other similar stories or comments gratefully accepted. Thank you one and all for letting me vent. I actually feel a little better.
Neal.
